Bitter root

 

“For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil are there.” - James 3:16

 

During a funeral ceremony of a Ukrainian soldier who died in Ukraine Russian war, priests from Russia beat a Ukrainian priest with a cross. A soldier named Oleksandar Ziniv died in the Russian Ukrainian war, his funeral was held at Tomashpil. A Ukrainian priest spoke there saying "We all should boycott Russian people and its church". A Russian priest was also sitting in the crowd; he condemned this priest saying "You shouldn't speak like this." Then he took a cross nearby and went near the Ukrainian priest and started to beat him. And the soldiers intervened and stopped their fighting. It is worrying that priests are fighting instead of preaching about peace. 

 

In today's devotion, James writes about the bitterness of envy. Hate towards others! It is changed into bitterness and hid itself in our hearts. This bitterness reflects whenever there is a situation for it to reflect. Holy Spirit says this is the root for every evil there is. 

 

It won’t appear as a big sin for us to have hatred on others. But this hatred brings mental illness on most of the cases and physical illness on some cases. This hatred pushes a man to murder in worst cases. Saul's life was destroyed because of the hatred he had on David. You should be careful if you have hatred on someone. If we think where the root of this bitterness is, it will begin from the point where we can’t forgive that person. So let us pray to God to give us the heart to forgive them. So let us humble ourselves to God, and pray to God to take us from the state of bitterness to happiness the Bible teaches us. Let God guide us all!
