Generosity

 

“For to their power, I bear record, yea, and beyond their power they were willing of themselves” - 2 Corinthians 8:3

 

 An example for generosity from 20th century. Stanford Kelly went as an evangelist to Haiti. He saw a currency worth of around 300 rupees in the offerings. It was a poor country, and the amount was equal to a month's wage. Kelly was amazed and his expression is similar to some evangelist who saw a cheque of 1 lakh rupees. 

 

Kelly found out that a farmer gave this extraordinary offering. Kelly went to the farmer and asked him, but the farmer was hesitant. Kelly insisted and this farmer said, he sold his horse which was providing his livelihood and gave it as offering. Kelly asked him, "why didn't you come yourself and offer the money?". He said, " the reason was I didn't have a shirt to wear". 

 

Today how are we giving offerings? Is secret and of whole heart? Or are we giving to impress others? Most of the times we give offerings so that others can praise us! Our mentality is "people should know what I am giving". But once Jesus went to church and speaks about the offering offered by a poor widow. She offered the two silver pieces which was all she had. Paul speaks about the believers in Macedonians as they were very generous, and I bear witness for them. Shall we give like the poor widow who was praised by God? 

 

Bible says, " But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing". So, let us be generous like the people mentioned above. And receive witness from God. Amen
