False witness

 

“Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.” - Exodus 20:16

 

When I was a kid, the pilgrims progress story was shown as a movie in our church. The hero of the story Christian and his friend Faithful reached this world. They tried to sell prides, fame in an exhibition. These two told " we will only buy truth" and that made a disturbance there. So, the leader sent these two to the judge. Jealousy and fame seeker witnessed falsely saying "These two stopped the sales in the exhibition". There was a commotion. So faithful was sentenced to death and burnt alive. That's how faithful was burnt from this world. 

 

My dear! Sometimes we bear false witness and steal their reputation and fame and eventually kill the truth. Bearing false witness to destroy someone's good reputation is a sin. We spread false news because of jealousy or mistrust using the small part of our body- the tongue. We agree to disrespect others by our body language or through silence. This is a sin. This can be done in privacy but God is watching. 

 

So, children of God! In the commandment "Do not bear false witness against thy neighbor" we can see God's concern on the good reputation of everyone. So, let us surrender our venomous tongue to be touched by Holy spirit before our tongue burns the lives of others. 1 Peter 2: 21,22 says “For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps. Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth" Let us accept what others say or do with good heart? Amen!
