You are not far

 

“When Jesus saw that he had answered wisely, He said to him, "You are not far from the kingdom of God." - Mark 12:34

 

A scribe came to our Lord and asked "Which is the first commandment of all? Jesus answered, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, With all your soul, with all your mind and with all your strength". This scribe didn't refuse what Jesus said, so "You are not far from the kingdom of God" Jesus said. In the Bible we can see Jesus rebuking scribes but He didn't rebuke this scribe. It is because he might be better than other Pharisees and scribes. We should note that this scribe is not in the kingdom of God but near it. The faith he had is in his head and not in his heart. The word of God should be in our mind not only in our head. If the word of God is in our mind it will guide us towards eternal life.

 

During Noah's times people didn't know about flood and rain. When Noah started telling people to return to God, they mocked Noah and said he is mad. Those people might have helped Noah build the ark even they didn't listen to him, they worked for the wages. during the flood, those who were swimming near the ark might be knocking the door. the door wasn't opened as it was not closed by Noah. People were not too far from the ark but still. Alas!

 

My dear, from the above two incidents from the Bible, let us think whether we are close to the Kingdom or in it? If we have the word of God in our hear and didn't show the reflection in our lives, we are near the Kingdom of God but not in it. So, let us all lead a life according to the scriptures and be blessed.
