House with ingrained dust

 

“What the law could not do, God did by sending His own son; He condemned sin in the flesh” - Romans 8:3

 

Shall we find out what the law did and what it was not able to do? We would not have known sin except through the law. Sin was in the world until the law was given through Moses. Anyhow sin was imputed only when the law was given. Therefore, the law is holy. The law did not produce death. Only sin produces death in us. The author of the book “The Pilgrim’s Progress” has described a scene that denotes the power of the gospel and grace.

 

Christian is the hero of the story “The Pilgrim’s Progress” written by John Bunyan. Christian was directed to the little wicket gate by the Evangelist. He walked along the very narrow path and reached the Interpreter’s house. He took him by his hand and led him into a very large room that was full of dust because it was never swept.

 

The Interpreter called for a man to sweep. When he began to sweep the room, there raised a cloud of dust. Christian was nearly choked by the flying dust. The Interpreter asked the girl near him to fetch water and sprinkle it. The girl sprinkled the room with water after which it was swept clean and cleansed with pleasure. Christian asked the Interpreter the meaning of this action.

 

The Interpreter began saying “The room is the heart of man. The dust is the sin and corruption stored in the heart. The man who tried to sweep out to remove the dust is the law. But the room could not be cleansed by him. The law could not cleanse it. But the girl who brought water and sprinkled is the Gospel of Jesus. As the law points out to our sin, it is not able to clean the heart of man. We hear the good news of Christ Jesus and accept him as our savior. Our sin is vanquished, and our soul is made clean and it is fit for the King of Glory to inhabit.” No man is justified by the works of the law but only by faith in Jesus Christ. Only the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from all sin. Let us understand the great power and value of the precious blood of Christ Jesus and experience deliverance and triumph.
