Prayer Life

 

“In the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place and there He prayed” - Mark 1:35

 

Bacchus, a senior minister of God who served in the Hamilton Theological Seminary was on his deathbed. The doctor who examined him whispered something to his friends who were at the door of his room. As soon as the doctor had left, Bacchus called his friends through gestures and asked what the doctor had informed. They said with tears that he would pass away within half an hour. At once Bacchus requested his friends to put him in kneeling position as he longed to die in praying posture. His friends kept him in kneeling position and soon he breathed his last. He had adhered steadfastly to the prayer life for many years and followed that practice till the last second of his life.

 

Christ lived on earth about 33 years and led a prayerful life. The Bible records Jesus praying different times and different places during his 3 ½ years of earthly ministry. Thus prayer was the secret of His triumphant ministry. He also showed and taught His disciples to pray. Before Jesus was betrayed, He prayed with tears in Gethsemane garden. Although He prayed for others and prayed with others, He often prayed alone to keep His intimate fellowship with His Father.

 

Beloved readers, Christ Jesus is a tremendous model and an excellent example for us in our prayer life. Jesus could accomplish His mission perfectly through prayer. Prayer is just talking to God. Our relationship with the living God is built on talking to Him. Prayer is the breath of the soul. “When prayer becomes our habit, miracles become our lifestyle”. Prayer should not be regarded as a duty to be performed. It is a privilege to be enjoyed. Let our prayer restore and renew our intimacy with God and help us grow in Christ.
