Free bird

 

“Rejoice, O young man, in your youth, and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth.” - Ecclesiastes 11:9 

 

“Advice! That is the one we don’t like. Don’t we have freedom to do what we like according to our own desire? Why do you poke your nose into our affairs? Are we still kids? Your era was like that but our days are different. Do not pester us.” These are the common complaints of all youngsters echoing in every house. In a nut shell we say that because of the 

generation gap youngsters behave differently.

 

The Holy Bible has given freedom to youth. We can walk in the ways of our heart and in the sight of our eyes. But to hold us in check the Bible says, “God will bring every work into judgment whether good or evil.” The Bible again affirms that, “Take firm hold of instruction. Do not let go; keep her for she is your life.” (Proverbs 4:13) In the parable of the prodigal son, the younger son did not like the instruction of the elders and he did not like to be monitored. He wanted to enjoy full freedom. He went abroad getting his share of property. Being a free bird, he led an extravagant life. We all know the end of the story. In the same manner Samson fell prey to the lust of his eyes and met his tragic end. 

 

Dear youth, genuine freedom does not lie in living as we like. The real freedom is in becoming slaves of God. All things are lawful for us but all things are not helpful. If we go astray breathing the sinful air and living an ungodly life, we shall become a prey to satan’s snare. The real liberation is the deliverance from all vices and deadly sins through the priceless blood of Christ Jesus. If the word of God and the counsel of parents become our wings, we can fly safely in our life.
