Sow good things and reap the same

“…for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” - Galatians 6:7

In a certain town a timber merchant was flourishing in his business. There was an iron merchant near his shop. Both of them became friends. When the timber merchant amassed wealth, he grew greedy. He desired to grab his friend’s iron shop also.

One day the ironware shop owner planned to go on a long tour with his family. He entrusted his friend to take care of his shop in his absence. But the timber merchant sold out all the iron goods before he could return. He remained quiet as if he was so innocent. The iron merchant returned home after the trip. When he opened the shop, he was terribly shocked to see his shop empty. With grief and confusion, he asked his friend about it. He casually replied that rats must have eaten them up. So, the iron merchant filed a case against the timber merchant. The King acted as if he believed each and every word of the timber merchant. The merchant was so glad that the King did not suspect him.

Days passed. One day the iron merchant invited his friend’s family for a grand festival held in his native. His friend was not willing to accompany him. He requested his friend to send at least his son. The timber merchant agreed to send his son with his friend. The festival was celebrated with delight.

When they returned to the town, his friend’s son did not turn up. His friend was in dismay as his beloved son was missing. When he enquired the iron merchant, he stated that an eagle had carried him away. The timber merchant argued how it could be possible for an eagle to carry a ten-year-old boy. He took the matter to the King. The King was waiting for his arrival. The King gave verdict that when rats could eat away the hard iron, it would be easier for an eagle to carry a ten-year-old boy. The timber merchant fell at the feet of the King and asked for forgiveness. He regretted for being dishonest. He brought the money he gained on selling the iron goods and gave it to the King. At once the iron merchant brought his friend’s son to the King. Both went home happily.

Dear kids, if we do bad things, bad things will happen to us and if we do good things, good things will happen to us. Thus, we reap what we sow. If we sow righteousness, we shall reap a sure reward. So, let us always do good to others.
