Mercy
“Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy” - Matthew 5:7
In West Michigan, a fifteen-year-old lad was suffering from cancer. He bore unbearable pain when he underwent chemotherapy for cancer. He lost his hair and went bald. As cancer is a terminal disease, he lost his hope. He was reluctant to go to school as he felt ashamed of his bald head. He was afraid that he would be mocked and ridiculed by his classmates. But on the first day of his return to school, a great astonishment awaited him. Many of his classmates had tonsured their heads as they loved him very much and tried to express their compassion to make him feel comfortable. Their little deed of kindness and love mitigated the lad’s pain and fear.
In the Holy Bible, the daughter of Pharaoh came down to bathe at the river and her maidens walked along the riverside. When she saw the ark among the reeds, she sent her maids to get it. When she opened it, she saw the baby weeping. So, she had compassion on him and she remarked, “This is one of the Hebrew’s children” (Exodus 2:5, 6). The baby found favor in her eyes and was saved. Christ Jesus speaks about mercy in His sermon on the mount. Our Lord is gracious and full of compassion. He shows mercy to thousands to those who love Him.
Beloved we may not have progress in our life. But we should not be merciless. When we were living in sin and curse, Christ Jesus showed tender mercies on us and saved us out of compassion. Are we merciful towards the people in our street and neighborhood? They can get to know the God of mercy by our acts of mercy.
