Living a wholesome life
“And this is his commandment that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another” - 1 John 3:23
The hotels in Switzerland were overflowing with the tourists who had come on a holiday trip to Swizz. They spent the daytime in sliding down snow-covered slopes and at nights they enjoyed club dances and music in the club. Having spent two weeks, they were getting ready for their return trip. On that Sunday evening, worship time was arranged by a few friends. The proprietor of the hotel also agreed and the clubs were shut down. Lindsey Cluck, a minister of God was invited as the guest speaker. One of the friends met Cluck before the meeting and gave the title for his sermon as “Life with a capital L”. Cluck began his message with a prayer and said, “The vertical line in the capital letter L denotes our fellowship with God and the horizontal line stands for our relationship with our fellow men.”
A Hermit in a hermitage may be indifferent to the world and renunciate worldly pleasures and say, “Only God and me” with a narrow mind. But he does not lead a wholesome life. It is a self-centered life. Likewise, a man who forgets God and does all types of service to the society is just like a blank dash. The capital letter L can be written only when a vertical and horizontal line join. In the same manner, a wholesome life is possible only when our relationship with others and our fellowship with God is perfect. Moreover, when we write the letter L, we draw the vertical line first and it affirms the vital importance of our fellowship with our heavenly Father.
A funny concept picture was given in the newspaper. In that image a beggar in rags was standing in a corner with a shock. When he was rebuked by police and asked to quit the place, the beggar remarked with tears and sorrow that Andrew, the millionaire had passed away. The Police on seeing his grief, asked if he was his relative. The beggar burst out saying that he was weeping as he was not his relative. Yes, relationship is very essential in life. We shall be made spiritually rich only if our fellowship with God is smooth and constant. A wholesome life is a life having faith in Christ Jesus and to love one another.
