No Age Bar

 

“Since we have this ministry, as we have received mercy we do not lose heart” - 2 Corinthians 4:1

 

“Go into the entire world and preach the gospel to every creature” is the great commission given by Jesus. We are familiar with the missionaries who obeyed and fulfilled God’s great commission. Among such missionaries, George Muller is the most striking. He accomplished his ministry till the age of 93, without giving room for exhaustion. When he was 90 years old, he had been advised by his Doctor to preach the gospel once a week. But George Muller retorted saying “I have been craving for the pure spiritual milk of the word for 68 years and 3 months. I have read the Holy Bible more than 4200 times. How will I get exhausted from praising, thanking God and preaching the word of God? How can I refrain from speaking about my loving God?” He wrote the same as a letter to the believers.

 

We come to know that George Muller had read the Bible hundred times getting on his knees. His life was according to the Bible. His life of prayer, untiring efforts, diligence and his sermon abounding in the word of God had a huge impact on numerous people and their lives. Let us thank God for the life of George Muller, who read, breathed and rejoiced with passion in the word of God till he was 93. There are biblical figures who lived to the Lord wholeheartedly and with zeal even at their old age such as Abraham, Moses, Simeon who took Jesus in his arms, Anna and others. Age was not a barrier for them when it came to work for God.

 

We may think “I am ageing and I cannot perform anything now as before”. We may lament feeling exhausted and fatigue. The Lord who gives power to the weak and increases strength to those who have no might is with us. Age is not a barrier to read the Bible and to do ministry. Let us persevere unceasingly. May God’s grace lead us through! Amen.
