Help

“…With the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.” - Matthew 7:2

Once, Sadhu Sundarsingh happened to travel through a pass high in the Himalayan Mountain with a certain man. They were unable to bear the bone chilling cold. They shivered and felt very weak. At one point, they came across a body lying in the snow. Sadhu wished to stop and help the dying man, but his fellow traveler refused saying, “We shall lose our lives, if we carry him.” Thus, he left the place. But Sadhu could not think of leaving the man to die in the ice and snow. He lifted the poor traveler on to his back. With great exertion on his part, he bore the man onward. Gradually the heat from Sadhu’s body began to warm up the beleaguered frozen fellow and he revived. Soon both were walking side by side. They found the man who went away without helping, dead frozen by the cold.

It is written in the Bible that we would be judged by the judgment with what we judge others, and it will be measured back to us with the same measure we use. If we shut our ears to the cry of the poor, God will not answer us when we call out to Him. No one will come forward to lend a helping hand to us. The Bible says, whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord.

The parable of the Good Samaritan is the best example. He took pity on the man who was attacked by the robbers and left half-dead. A priest and a Levite saw the wounded man but passed by on the other side. The Good Samaritan alone had compassion on him. Thus, he was testified by Jesus.

Let us search and find out how our reply and reaction to the one who comes to us with hope and earnestly seeks our help. On the Day of Judgment on which side are we going to stand? Can we be found on the side where blessed people who helped the sick, poor and needy are gathered or on the side where cursed people who are never known to God are standing?
