Endure the pangs of grief

 

“If we endure, we shall also reign with Him.” - 2 Timothy 2:12

 

William Ault, an English man had read the whole Bible by the age of seven. In his teens he was running a Sunday school. He was interested in overseas mission. When a call was given for doing ministry in Ceylon, (Srilanka) William Ault dedicated himself for the ministry in Ceylon. He married Sarah who was willing to shoulder him in his missionary task. Thus, William’s family was one of the six missionaries’ families sent to Ceylon. It was heartbreaking to know that Sarah fell ill and met her end during the voyage. Having given his beloved wife a water burial, he continued his voyage. He felt utterly bereft and reached Batticaloa with grief. Hailing from a well to do family, He accommodated himself in a poor little cottage and spent his days without sufficient food. But nothing could deter him from doing the ministry. He worked for 20 hours a day without enough rest. He established 8 schools in villages in 8 months. A college was founded and a church was planted. Williams Ault was confronted with losses, struggles and hardships but he neither murmured nor grew weary. He never retreated.

 

But nowadays, we people, very soon become weary in our lives in many situations, when we encounter problems either in family or in the workplace. We fall back from work and ministry and looks for new places. In the Bible we find Jonah and Elijah accomplishing tremendous tasks for God. But when they faced difficult situation, they prayed to God to take their life from them. But Christ Jesus, the Son of Man who had no place to lay His head suffered and died enduring the pangs of death on the cross, for us.

 

Beloved, we may have problems, complications and struggles in our work and ministry. But we should never despise or murmur for anything. Without losing heart let us run with renewed strength. Considering Christ Jesus who endured the cross let us press on to the goal. Let us persevere and receive the crown of life.

Pray that God may help us to plant churches in the villages without churches where our companion missionaries do ministry.
