Do you wish to thrive well?

 

“When Jesus saw him lying there and knew that he already had been in that condition a long time, He said to him, “Do you want to be made well?” - John 5:6  

 

Dear readers of this devotional magazine, I would like to ask you something. Would you like to be prosperous and successful? Yes, you may think why I am asking you such a question. Who on earth does not like to flourish in everything?” will be your answer.

 

One day, when I was returning from the supermarket, my eyes fell on the beggars who were sitting by the side of the bridge begging for alms. When I was moving past, I noticed the beggar at the end of the row begging in a different way. I gazed at him. He was lifting his clothes and showing the wounds with pus and asking for alms. Actually, the wounds were as deep as bones. I could not bear the miserable condition of the beggar. I went closer to him. Being a doctor in a nearby hospital, I requested him to come there for treatment and I also gave assurance that there are many enriched medicines available to heal the rotten wounds. I was much disappointed when he chuckled saying,’ I get more alms only by showing my sores. If I am healed, who will take pity on me and give alms?” He shared the matter with the other beggars and had a good laugh.

 

Our plight is the same as that of the beggar’s. Jesus asked the man who had been paralysed for 38 years “Do you want to be made well? Look how our Lord Jesus awaits to fulfil the longings and desire of our hearts! We many have hidden longings in our heart to get healed, to perform well in studies to lead a holy life and so on. The man who was crippled for 38 years might have lost hope of getting healed but lain with expectation and desire for healing. Now, knowing all our thoughts, Jesus asks us, “Do you want to be made well?” Jesus is knocking on the door of our hearts so that He can come in and fulfil all the desire of our heart. If we open and accept Jesus into our heart, He will fill our heart with His Holy Spirit. So, let us not delay. Let us open the door and let Him in at once.
