Acceptable to God

 

“Finding out what is acceptable to the Lord” – Ephesians 5:10

 

One night a pastor was going to church. On his way, he was threatened by a robber at knife point and he demanded money. When the pastor was taking the money out, the robber somehow found out that he was a pastor. He did not take the money, saying, I am sparing you as you are a pastor.” The pastor was surprised to see his deep religious feeling. He offered him a bar of palm sugar. (Rock candy) The waylayer rejected it saying “Thank you, but I do not eat sweets during Lenten season.

 

You see, the robber had thought that giving up sweets during Lenten season would be acceptable to the Lord. But he saddened God by his wicked life. The rituals and ceremonies observed by a Christian will not show his love for the Lord. He can exhibit his love for God by his words and deeds and with a clean heart. If our heart is pure and holy, it will be reflected in our words and deeds. Thus, Jesus says in Matthew 23: 26 “First cleanse the inside of the cup that the outside of them may be clean too” so let us not be content with the observance of Lenten season but implore God to create in us a clean heart and to renew a steadfast spirit within us.

 

Having known what is acceptable and well pleasing to the Lord, let us follow what we have learnt throughout our life. Let us make a resolution to lead a life which is acceptable to God. May God delight in us!
