Simon who carried the cross
“Then they compelled a certain man, Simon… to bear His cross.” - Mark15:21
The soldiers called together the whole garrison and struck Jesus on the head with a reed and spat on Him. After they had mocked Him, they led Him out to crucify Him. On the way they compelled Simon to bear His cross. He bore the weight of the cross the rest of the way quietly and temporarily eased Jesus’ burden.
There was a big crowd in the streets but the eyes of the soldiers fell only on Simon. In the same manner, do we draw the attention of everyone at the workplace by remaining righteous? Do we keep suffering for Christ by being upright? Are we bearing the weight of the cross? We need not worry or grow weary. Daniel, Job and Joseph were forsaken but bore all the affliction all alone under all circumstances. But they were exalted by God at the right time. Likewise, God will deliver us and exalt us before their very eyes.
Not only that, History says that Alexander and Rufus who were the sons of Simon, later became prominent figures holding high position in the church and society.
So, let us resolve to carry our cross with a rejoicing heart on this Good Friday. God will bless and exalt our family and descendants like that of Simon’s. We shall be crowned with a pearl studded crown in heaven.
