Jesus Commits His Spirit
“Jesus said, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit…” - Luke 23: 46
The seventh word of Jesus from the cross
Christ Jesus is the ideal role model for us. We come to know through the word of God that Jesus committed himself to god not only on the day of crucifixion but in every situation of each day of His life on earth. He submitted himself, His good works, His disciple and followers into God’s hand. His entire life was marked by a steady inclination to do God’s will. He prayed and waited upon God’s timing and then performed. Before being betrayed, how earnestly Jesus knelt down prayed in agony! What an example set by Him! He prayed, “Father…not my will but yours be done.”
He was delivered by the determined purpose and foreknowledge of God to be crucified. As Jesus said, “No one can take my life from me, but I lay it down of myself.” That was why He committed His spirit in the hands of God. He finished His mission by submitting Himself to the preordained specific timing of God’s plan.
Beloved friends, How about us? What have we committed into the hands of the Lord while praying? Have we surrendered our lives to the Lord? Have we committed the future of our children in God’s hand? When we submit ourselves to God, we are redeemed from sins and we receive new hope and new life and we live with joy of salvation in this world and everlasting life in heaven. So let us commit our desire, longings and everything into the hands of the Lord Almighty. Let us receive redemption from sins and everlasting life.
