“Whoever assembles against you shall fall for your sake” – Isaiah 54:15

A certain man exercised influence by his power and money. He began to act against his elder brother and his family. He disgraced his brother and his family. For no reason whatsoever he picked a quarrel with them often. He did evil to them through men who were paid for doing it. Thus, he ruined the reputation of his own brother. His aim was to curb the growth and progress of others so that they may not be able to surpass him in power and wealth. The years rolled by. The wicked brother fell seriously ill and his condition was declining. In that condition he was pricked in his conscience, and he repented and went to his brother and asked forgiveness for all the evil done by him to his brother and his family. His elder brother accepted him saying, “May God forgive your sins.”

In the book of Genesis, in the 26th chapter we find Isaac having possessions of herds, flocks and a great number of servants. The Philistines envied him and stopped up all the wells dug in Abraham’s days. They filled the wells with earth. Isaac dug two of the wells again but the herdsmen of Gerar quarreled with him saying, “The water is ours” Leaving those two wells, he dug another one. They did not quarrel over it. Thus, the Philistines were doing evil to him. Later they themselves bore witness saying, “We have certainly seen that the Lord is with you; you are the blessed of the Lord.” and they made a covenant with him.

Beloved sisters and brothers, sometimes people may speak ill of us or do wrong things to us without any reason. But we need not fear them or get discouraged. Let us not quarrel with them or fight with them. On realizing that the Lord is with us to bless us they will join us. They will be blessed through us. Amen.
