What shall I give you?
“Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added to you.” – Matthew 6: 33
In the Bible we could see that the Lord was greatly pleased with a few personalities. Solomon was the Lord’s choice to be the king. He offered a thousand burnt offering at the altar. That night God appeared to him in his dream and said, “Ask, what shall I give you?” If Solomon had desired, he could have asked for power, riches and more kingdoms etc. But as he wanted to be a good king, he requested God to give him wisdom to judge the people justly. The Lord was greatly pleased with Solomon’s request that He gave him a wise and understanding heart. In addition, he was given riches and honour which he had not asked for. Thus, Solomon was blessed abundantly.
In the same manner, we find that Moses was the Lord’s choice for a special purpose. When God spoke to him about his great calling, he was slow of speech and of a slow tongue. But God promised His presence and he found favour in God’s yes. He did not desire for any worldly blessings. His desperate desire was to see God’s eyes. The more Moses experienced God, the more he wanted of Him. God found it acceptable and He caused all His goodness to pass in front of him. He manifested himself to Moses. Moses saw God’s glory pass by. Then when Moses went up Mount Sinai, the Lord descended in the cloud and stood with him and passed before him. What an ecstatic experience!
Suppose, God asks us, “Ask, what shall I give you?” What will be our answer? Are we going to ask for worldly blessings or the things that please God greatly and the things that delight Him most and the things that bring glory to His matchless name? The Bible says, if we seek the kingdom of God, all the other things will be added. So, let us seek and set our minds on things above and do what is pleasing to Jesus and what delights Him. Amen.
