Virtuous woman 

“…But you excel them all.” – Proverbs 31:29 

My beloved mother went to be with the Lord on 15th January. I would like to share some good things about her to glorify the name of the Lord. 

My mother was from a non-Christian background but she possessed many good qualities of a virtuous woman by nature. She set an example of patience, meekness, love and submission for us. My parents never argued or fought in front of us. We were brought up with love and care. I accepted Christ Jesus as my savior during my college days. Then I introduced Jesus to my mother. She was reluctant to accept Jesus as she could not act against my father’s command. 

Once, my mother had to travel alone to Jodhpur, in north India as it was my sister’s delivery time. Telephone facilities were not available in those days. The short prayer said by my mother to Jesus in those difficult days was so powerful to drop her in her daughter’s house safely. She prayed saying, “Oh Lord the baby’s due date is nearing. Take me to the right place at the right time.” She proceeded to a different state and travelled among unknown people speaking un-understandable language relying only on God. The Lord answered her prayer and she reached her destination safely. Her answered prayer made her accept Christ Jesus. She was baptized in our native place in 1982. Then God was so merciful to protect her from many deadly ensnares such as ulcer, blockage in arteries, blood vomit, injury by short circuit, leptaspirosis and corona. She was healed and led in a wonderful way and satisfied with long life. She lived for 92 years and she nursed and took care of her parents, husband, and daughter-in-law in the last days of their lives. She had never spoken anything wrong about anyone. She would not find fault with others. She longed to go to church for worship. She did not murmur even in her death bed. 

Yes, she had never advised us how to live but she lived and showed us the way to be a virtuous woman. Let us strive hard with prayer to be a woman of virtue having noble traits by seeking God at dawn, helping the poor, putting house in order and being the crown of the husband. May God be merciful and help us to be an excellent mother and virtuous wife who will be commended as blessed by children and husband.
