Daily Devotion (English) – 10.03.2022

A wholesome tongue 

“A wholesome tongue is a tree of life.” – Proverbs 15:4 

Ramu and Somu were good friends. Somu noticed Ram going for a walk daily. Then he was seen at the medicals too. So Somu asked his friend about the changes in his life. Ramu felt panic to say that he was a diabetic patient who was on medication. Somu soothed him saying that he need not identify himself as a patient as it would weaken him and increase the level of glucose in the blood. He advised him not to worry and grow weary but to live in faith to get over it. 

Just like Ramu we are anxious and feel that there is no way to come out of the prevailing situation and we have to suffer like this till the end. We lose our hope and courage and get depressed. The Bible says, “The tongue has the power of life and death.” Thus we need to be cautious and must mind our words. Twelve spies, one from each tribe was sent to Canaan. Out of the twelve, only Joshua and Caleb brought a good report. They were so confident that they could easily overcome that exceeding good land that flowed with milk and honey. The other ten spies gave an alarming report which said, “People who dwell in the land are strong; their cities are fortified and very large and we cannot overcome it” They wept and complained against Moses and Aaron. Then Moses and Aaron pacified them and instilled confidence into them. Even then, forgetting all the signs, wonders and miracles they experienced, they kept murmuring and lamenting and used unwholesome words. As a result, none of them who grumbled entered the Promised Land. Only Joshua and Caleb who believed and spoke wholesome words inherited Canaan.    

Beloved readers, let us think and speak positively. Let us take victory by speaking wholesome words because our tongues can build others up or they can tear them. Our words become our reality. As Joshua and Caleb possessed Canaan, let us also wait with hope to inherit the heavenly Canaan. Until then let us speak only good and wholesome things and live in hope of entering heavenly country.
