Seeds fallen on good ground
“Others fell on good ground sprang up and yielded a crop a hundredfold.” – Luke 8:8
Once, two friends namely a doctor and a minister of God went into the forest for recreational hunting. When they were half way through, they got frightened on seeing a bear coming towards them. Rising to the occasion, they hid themselves behind a tree and aimed and shot the bear down. The bear fell dead. Both the friends were curious to see where the bullets were. One bullet had pierced to the heart. Another one hit its ear and had come out. They had a lively chat about the two bullets. The doctor was so sure that his bullet only pierced to the heart because whatever he told the people would go straight to their heart as it was dealt with their lives and they would follow the instructions and prescriptions properly. The minister of God could not retort. Then the doctor asserted that the bullet that touched the ear was his fiend’s because whatever he preached did not go into the heart of the people. It seemed to go in one ear and out the other.
Beloved, how true it is! At times we do not give room for the word of God to work in us and bring in transformation, although we read and listen to the word of God. Jesus clearly explains this truth in Luke 8: 4-8 through a parable. Some of us are like the seeds fallen by the wayside and we just listen to the word of God and forget all about it. Some of us are like the seeds fallen on a rock and we grow a little in the word of God, but wither without strength. Some of us are like the seeds fallen among thorns. We grow in the word of God, but when we are pricked by thorn like problems in our lives, we get weary and retreat. Only a few of us are like the seeds fallen on good ground and we spring up and yield a crop of sixty and hundred-fold. At times we also prioritise worldly matters and get ourselves engrossed in them and forget all about the word of God. Some of us even fail to pay attention to the voice of God. Let us search and find out where we stand and begin to meditate on the word of God and dedicate ourselves so that the word of God can work in us perfectly.
