Two Parrots

“Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers” - Ephesians 4:29

A certain hunter found two nestlings of a parrot in a hollow of the tree. He took the two birdies with him. On his way home, he went to the ashram and gave one to the Sadhu. He kept the other one as his pet. Do you have a pet parrot? Parrot can talk beautifully. There is a saying “parrot repeats what we say” Do you like parrots? Yes. I too like it, come, listen to the story.

A certain man was walking along a footpath in the forest; He was too tired to walk. He came across a house. He decided to lie down in the porch and take rest. Actually, that was the hunter’s house. He had just fallen asleep. But he was woken up by the abusive language heard from the house. He heard the scolding using abusive words such as fool, ass, and good for nothing. He understood that only a parrot was doing it. He could not sit there. So, he continued his journey. Then he found the ashram and was happy to rest over there. He just reached the entrance of the Sadhu’s place. He heard someone welcoming in a sweet voice and saying, “Please, come in sir. How are you? sit and rest awhile”. He marveled at the sweet, loving and meek words of the parrot. He took rest and went on his way with renewed energy.

You see, both the parrots were from the same place. But they were brought up by different personalities. The one which stayed with the hunter heard only abusive words from the hunter. So, it repeated the same words. But the other parrot listened to the kind and gentle words from the mouth of the Sadhu. So, it repeated those pleasing words. Similarly, we will be influenced by the nature of our friends with whom we spend more time. So, let us make friends with good natured children. If you find anyone with bad nature, be careful with them. You can speak to him but do not copy any of his ways. Have good friends.

Dear kids, we must speak good things that impart grace to the hearers and let us not grieve the Holy Spirit by our corrupt words, speak no evil. Ok kutties.
