Remember 

 

“Remember Lot’s wife.” - Luke 17:32

 

The Tamil proverb says, “The building and destroying of anything depend on women.” A woman can be either a blessing or cure to her family. So, the Bible illustrates two women as warning signs and exhorts us to remember them. 

 

Lot’s wife: The unnamed woman was the wife of Lot a righteous man. They found favor in God’s sight and received mercy from God to escape from the destruction of Sodom. God told them not to look behind but to escape for their lives. But Lot’s wife disobeyed the warning and looked back behind as her heart longed for that lustful way of life. Thus, she became a pillar of salt. If she had obeyed and fled with her righteous husband, the cursed descendants of Lot namely Ammonites and Moabites would not have been possible. Mothers play a vital role in the wellness of the family. The Bible says, “The wise woman builds her house but the foolish pulls it down with her hands.” If we wish our family to be an exemplary family blessed by God, the mothers must keep the commands of God. The mother has to put off her former conduct and the old self which grows corrupt due to deceitful lust and to be renewed in the spirit of her mind and put-on new man which was created according to God.

 

Miriam: Miriam was God’s elect and a prophet as well. Although she had a special calling, she had the spirit of murmuring. Her brother Moses the servant of God was six years junior to her. She spoke against Moses saying, “Has the Lord spoken only through Moses? Has He not spoken through us also?” The Lord heard it. Miriam became leprous as she dared to rebel against Moses. So, the Bible reminds us, “Remember what the Lord your God did to Miriam!” So, let us not complain as Israelites complained and were destroyed by the destroyer. (1Corinthians10:10) Let us have the mindset to thank God in everything and giving no room to murmuring and complaining. Let us abstain from speaking against the servants of God. Let us remember with fear what happened to Miriam for complaining and finding fault with the servants of God. Let us be watchful and vigilant remembering Lot’s wife who was glued to the world. She looked back and perished and became a pillar of salt. Let us do all things without complaining and disputing.
