God of the mighty

 

“…Go in this might of yours…Have I not sent you?” – Judges 6:14

 

This is an interesting anecdote from the life of D.L. Moody the most wonderful preacher of his generation. Once he happened to meet a doctor when he was unwell. The doctor who found the irregularities in Moody’s heart, urged him to ease his entire schedule. From that day onwards his mind longed for rest and he determined to slow down his ministry. At this juncture, he made a voyage to Chicago for the great ministry campaign known as World’s Fair Campaign held for six months. He was resting in his cabin as he felt sea sick. He pre planned to share his ministry work during revival campaign. Suddenly the ship had been driven on a rock and the shaft was broken. The cabins were filling with water. During this crisis at sea, Moody lifted up his eyes to the Lord. God confronted him with a decision. God said, “You have decided to take rest. It is of no use, if you do not minister with all your strength. It is better you come to me and rest.” Moody was broken and moved by the longing of God. He fell on his knees. He assured to God that he would serve him with all strength, if he is saved from shipwreck. Then he had never thought about his weakness all his life. All the distressed voyagers were saved by the rescuing ship. The preacher praised and thanked the Lord Almighty. Then his heart was filled with new zeal for Christ.

 

Just take a look at the vessels we meet in the Bible who were used by God for His glory. We can find them doing the tasks assigned to them with zeal and will all their heart. God foreknew Noah for making the majestic ark, when it had never rained. God used Gideon who was threshing wheat in the winepress in order to hide it from the Midianites. God used Elisha who was plowing with twelve yokes of oxen. He blessed him with a double portion of Elijah’s spirit. God chose David who was keeping his father’s sheep and delivering lambs from the paws of the lion and bear by killing them. Are we ready to do God’s work with all our strength? 

 

We may be weary due to weakness or disheartened by our problems? Let us arise and carry out God’s work with a zealous heart. He is faithful to use us powerfully for His glory. Hallelujah!
