No to anything free

 

“A faithful man will abound with blessings…” – Proverbs 28:20 

 

The passengers ship from Europe which was bound to New York departed with 1500 passengers. The ship had different classes as we have in trains and aero planes. A couple from an ordinary family with their three kids had boarded the ship. As they could not afford much, they were in the third class. The eldest boy was ten years old. He was very smart and he was enjoying the voyage. Have you ever gone on sea voyage? It will be quite exciting.  

 

One day an attractive and mouthwatering cake displayed in a restaurant drew the attention of the little lad. He wished to taste the delicious cake. He knew that his father could not get it for him as it was costly. He just had a look at the cake daily. His action had been noticed by a certain gentle man. He took a cake and offered it to the little boy. But the little lad denied his offer firmly. He stated that he would never accept anything free of cost. He would pay for it and get it. The gentle man was surprised at his stance. But we are in the habit of receiving cakes and sweets from others. We should be careful not to get anything from any stranger. 

 

The gentleman said, “I am grieved to see you just looking at the tasty cakes with a strong desire to eat it. As I am the owner of the restaurant, I am offering it as a gift. Kindly accept it.” But the smart little boy entreated him to give him some odd job to do. He said that he was ready to do any work. As he desired, he worked hard and earned money and bought the most desired cakes with his savings. The owner confirmed that the lad would prosper and flourish in his life. 

 

We are ready to obtain anything free of cost and we look for easy way of getting things. But the little boy worked diligently. Let us also strive hard and work earnestly without cheating and telling lies. We should never try to copy the answers in the exam. When things are done honestly and joyfully putting in all our efforts, we shall be exalted and honored. Truthfulness is the ladder that accelerates us to exaltation.
