Battle front or Blanket?

“Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called...” - I Timothy 6:12

Uriah, the Hittite had a reputation as a fearless militant. Suppose, when a warrior in the warfront is asked to go home and enjoy and be merry with his family, will he hesitate to go home? No, never. During the reign of David the reputed King of Israel, such an order was given to a warrior named Uriah. The king himself persuaded and induced Uriah to go to his house. But Uriah firmly repudiated the order of the King. When asked for the cause for his denial, he stated firmly. “The ark and Israel and Judah are dwelling in tents and are encamped in the open field, shall I then go to my house to eat and drink and to be with my wife? I will not do this thing.”

An ordinary soldier had very strong sense of duty. His zeal for the well being and triumph of his country and his commitment to his duty made him feel an obligation to stay with others. Thus brushing aside his own pleasure the officer slept at the door of the King’s house. Such a dutiful warrior was struck down unjustly. But his words recorded in the Bible speak and inspire us to be committed to our duty and responsibilities. Those who are in power and supposed to be at the forefront are lagging behind and are sluggish or inactive. That’s why the world is prone to increasing sins, vices and curses. Where is valorous David who vanquished gigantic Goliaths? Do they fluctuate and stumble not able to resist Bathsheba? Where have David’s former zeal, energy and grit gone? How sad that David the mighty king who was supposed to be at the warfront leading his troops was batting against lust and falling in it.

Dear friends, are we lethargic forgetting all about the responsibilities and duty assigned to us? This is the time for us to work for the Lord. Do we yield to our heart’s desire and lead a life displeasing to God? Let us perceive. Unless we bend our knees in prayer victory will be with words and speech but not in deeds and in truth. Let us prostrate ourselves in the presence of God. Let us arise to wage a war of faith. We shall overcome weariness, weakness, troubles and losses

- Mrs. Ruth Aneesh
