Precious treasure

 

“…you search the scriptures” – John 5:39

 

Everyone will be stirred to hear about the true and earnest desire in the little heart of Mary Jones towards the word of God. Long ago, it was very difficult to get a copy of the Holy Bible even if we could afford to buy it. Mary Jones was a Welsh girl who managed to read and write with a master’s help. Then she walked six miles away every weekend to read the wonderful words from the Bible that was available in the home of a kind couple. She toiled hard doing odd jobs for six long years and saved up money to purchase the Bible in her own language. She had such a passion to possess a copy of the Bible. At the age of fifteen, she walked twenty six miles barefoot across the country to buy a copy of the Welsh Bible. She was captivated by the word of God. She memorized numerous verses and set a role model for the others to imitate. Many accepted Jesus through her exemplary life and ministry.

 

D.L. Moody had said “I never saw a fruit bearing Christian who was not a student of the Bible. Without prioritizing God’s word, if we pray and minister, we will not be accepted and used by God”. Abraham Lincoln had said, “I believe, the Bible is the best gift God has ever given to man. All the good from the savior of the world is communicated to us through the Bible”. David also proclaims in Psalms 19:7 “The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul”. No one can serve the world and the word of God. Knowledge can be obtained from many books. The Holy Bible alone reflects the unfathomable love of Jesus, gives salvation and leads us to heaven. The Holy Bible is not made of mere paper. It is the very heart beat of the Holy God.

 

Beloved readers, the Bible in our hand is a precious treasure. We have obtained it in our own language by the selfless sacrifices of the missionaries. Let us resolve to read it, meditate on the word of God and live accordingly. God will bless us. Amen.
