Protecting hands
“Call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me.” - Psalms 50:15
That was the time when the World War II was at its peak. The fighter jets were engaged in their air-to-air combat. Bomber, the military aircraft was dropping bombs on targeted locations. To protect themselves from bomb blast, people encamped at Irrawaddy River and were crying out to God. Gracy a nine-year-old child was sitting among the crowd calling on the name “Jesus, Jesus” and praying. Gracy’s family left Rangoon fearing that it would be destroyed completely. They fled from there leaving behind their house and rice mill. They moved into Bavato, a village. One day, Gracy had been to the shop in Pasumanthan with the granny in the next house to buy things. Just to find out the prevailing situation and the condition of their rice mill Gracy’s grandpa and daddy with her brother went to Rangoon. Quite unexpectedly, the military soldiers opened fire. Gracy was so panic to think about her family members. Then the siren had sounded to indicate that the danger had passed. So, the people at the Irrawaddy River ran back to their houses. Gracy reached home safe. She was embraced by her mother. Her mother gave thanks to God for bringing her back safely. When Gracy’s grandpa, dad and brother entered, there were tears of joy in everyone’s eyes.
Gracy’s father shared his testimony saying that they were saved by God from the brink of death. When they were on the way to the rice mill, the military soldiers opened fire. They ran and hid themselves on the staircase of a house. Those who were at the shops and nearby area were shot down. Loud screams and wailing were heard. At that moment, Gracy’s brother stated with assurance, “Jesus is here; He will certainly save us.” Those who were standing on the stairs with fear gained rays of hope from his words. Gracy’s father said that if the shooting had continued further, they would be their next target. They all knelt down and praised God and gave thanks to His glorious name. Prayer brings victory. The Lord is our refuge.
Yes, God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. He is our helper not only in trouble but in all the time. Blessed are those who take refuge in Him. Let us be of good courage. We will be protected under the shadow of His wings.
