Daily Devotion (English) – 01.01.2022

 

Joyful beginning 

 

“…Sanctify yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do wonders among you.” – Joshua 3:5 

 

Franco – German war was going on from 1870-1871, between France and Germany. A certain man mistakenly had picked up two unexploded bombs and kept them at the fireplace in his house. Then he forgot all about them. One day his friend who was a bomb explosives expert visited him by chance. His friend was shocked to see the bombs by the fireplace. He explained to him how dangerous the bombs were and the consequences of their explosion. Thus, they were taken away at once from his house. 

 

At times we also harbour hazardous and obnoxious things unaware of their impacts. Once we eliminate such devastating and desolating work from us, we can receive healing and peace in our mind. Before going to Bethel Jacob said to all who were with him, “Put away the foreign gods that are among you; Purify yourselves and change your garments.” (Genesis 35:1-4) Similarly Samuel spoke to all the house of Israel telling them to return to the Lord with all their heart, put away the foreign gods and prepare their heart for the Lord. We can witness outright miracles if we put away all unclean things and pursue holiness. 

 

Joshua just took up the responsibility of leading the Israelites. He also told the Israelites to sanctify themselves so that the Lord would do wonders among them. Can magic give us prosperity in the New Year? No. The Bible says that consecration is the only way to receive miracles. Let us not look at others. Let us concentrate on self-introspection. We need to search and find out and get rid of the sins that are as destructive as bombs. 

 

Let us flee from worldly lust, luxury, evil company and friendship with opposite sex and refrain from misusing and wasting time in a carefree manner. The Lord our God who has called us is holy and He desires us to be holy in all our conducts. If we eschew evil and love and long for holiness, we shall witness miracles around us. This New Year is observed as “The year of growing in Holiness.” Let us grow in Holiness and be blessed!
