Do not be afraid!

 

“…Do not be afraid, for your prayer is heard…” – Luke 1:13

 

Christmas is fast approaching and we are extremely happy about it. But amid such delight, some sort of fear creeps into the corner of our hearts at times as we are pressed on by some problems in our lives. It would be suitable to ponder the word of God that reminds us not to be afraid on any account. 

 

We read in the gospel of Luke 1:13 “Do not be afraid, Zacharias, for your prayer is heard;” Zacharias might have prayed earnestly for years to bless them with a baby. But it was God’s will that John the Baptist must be born just six months before the birth of Christ Jesus to make straight the way of the Lord. So, God delayed His answer to their prayer. Our knees might have become feeble because of delay in getting the answer for our prayers. Beloved, “Fear not.” His delay is not denial. Though delayed, the best will be given to us. 

 

“Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.” (Luke 1:30) Who can find favor in the eyes of God? Only those who are humble. Mercy, a priceless gift of God was given abundantly to her. Mary was not from a wealthy family. She was betrothed to Joseph, an ordinary carpenter. Then why was she chosen to bring forth the savior of the world? Although there were thousands of virgins among Jews God’s eyes were upon Mary only because of her hidden quality of humility. Do you feel distressed at your state of being poor and lowly? Let us be humble so as to be exalted.

 

“Do not be afraid…I bring you good tidings of great joy.” (Luke 2:10) The shepherd heard this glad news through the angel at night. We always feel that we can not take steps to carry out any thing at night. Is our life gloomy and dark? Are we confused not sure of which way to move? We need not be afraid. God is there to brighten up our lives. If we seek His presence every day, the Lord will make His face shine on us and be gracious to us. 

“Fear not…I will help you” (Isaiah 41:14)
