Mystery of the Birth of Jesus
“…she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.” – Matthew 1:21
When Jesus was born, the jews hoped that Jesus had come into the world as a messianic redeemer who would throw off the power and rule of the Roman empire and restore jews sovereignty in the land of Israel. That was why they asked Jesus saying, “Lord will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” (Acts 1:6)
It is quite true when Jesus lived on earth, the jews were ruled by the Romans and were treated as slaves. But His intention of coming into the world was not to set the jews free from Roman’s slavery and power but to deliver them from the deadly sins that enslave the souls. His aim was to liberate people from the slavery of sins that are worse than the enslavement of body. But the jews were unwilling to accept it. Until now they have been waiting for the coming of Messiah. What a pity! We know the mystery of the birth of Jesus but are we truly freed from the sins?
Dear Believers, we have been celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ who has set us free from all our sins. He came to the world to save the ungodly, adulterers, drunkards and people who are slaves to worldly lust. Have we really got deliverance from our sins? Even believers are under the clutches of sins not knowing the mystery of his birth. But we never fail to remember His birthday. Our celebration will be meaningless without our experience of deliverance and salvation. Let us ponder, we are the witness of Jesus Christ. Do we find it difficult to be witnesses of Jesus Christ? Jesus gave himself to us before two thousand years. Why should we still be slaves?
It does not matter for how many years we have been celebrating Christmas. Jesus must be born in our hearts. Let us not waste time. We can submit ourselves to God just as we are and observe Christmas with great joy in our hearts.
