Treasure Hunting
“Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift” - 2 Corinthians 9:15
Dave Crisp, who lived in England had been hunting for treasures without great success. In the very recent history Dave Crisp, using a metal detector uncovered a hoard of 52000 Roman coins in south western England. When the pot was unearthed the old silver and bronze coins dating 3rd century AD were found. The buried treasure weighed and its 175kg and it’s worth was 5 million dollars.
This episode inspires us to dream about finding more valuable treasure than what Dave uncovered. But dear readers, we have to seek a different kind of treasure. The precious treasure we have to look for is neither silver nor gold. Our treasure is a very precious stone. If we search for it, we shall find the treasure Christmas season. Yes, Jesus Christ is the precious treasure. Our heavenly father sent his precious son as a treasure. Our precious treasure is given not only for our lives on the earth but also in the ages to come for eternal life. Have we found the precious treasure and claimed it as our possession?
The gospel of Matthew reveals us that the wiseman from east travelled a long distance to reach the birth place of Jesus. They witnessed and worshipped Baby Jesus. When they saw Jesus, they deduced that their treasures in their hands were nothing when compared to Jesus, the most precious treasure. Let us claim Jesus as our treasure. That is the most valuable possession. Let us thank God for his indescribable gift. Amen
