Heavenly treasure 

 

“…they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense and myrrh.” – Matthew 2:11 

 

When Christ Jesus was born in Bethlehem, the wise men from East came and worshipped Jesus and presented precious gifts as a token of their veneration. Those three presents namely gold, frankincense and myrrh are valuable and only royal families and sophisticated people could afford to get them for their use. They are considered as precious ones in this world. Let us see how they are viewed in heaven.

 

Perishable gold=imperishable faith: Whatever treasures we store up on earth will be destroyed. Only faith in Christ is imperishable. The work of faith helps us to walk and live by faith in the world and it has the power to take us to heaven as well. Whoever believes in Jesus will never be put to shame. So let us keep the faith and God will preserve us for heavenly kingdom. 

 

Prayer an incense offering: The Lord our God who created the heaven and the earth desires to work in us through our prayers. What a magnificent blessing it is! But how grievous it is to see people hardly find time to have fellowship with God through prayers! They indulge in worldly things and are slaves to mobile phone and TV. They pass time with their friends. But our prayer should be counted as incense before God. Prayer is the breath of life to our soul. So let us pray fervently and incessantly.   

 

Myrrh: It stands for the cross that every Christian must take up to follow Jesus. It also insists the denial of one’s own desires and interests without being enticed by the worldly riches and submission to God’s will. We are to God the fragrance of Christ. So let us diffuse the fragrance of Christ among people. 

 

Beloved, the above-mentioned Faith, Prayer and Self-denial are appraised very high and deemed to be treasures in heaven. Let us lead a life of faith, prayer and self-denial and become a precious stone in Zion.
