“…Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners…” – 1Timothy 1:15
Babu’s dad woke up with a startle on hearing the bang of the door. When he was back to himself, he was sure that it was Babu’s action done in great anger. Such unpleasant situations were often created by Babu for many years. Babu’s father realized that only if Babu turned to God in genuine repentance there would be peace at home. His father spoke to him about the effects of his wrath on him and in others lives. Babu regretted that he could not control his anger. His father advised him to drive a nail into the wall whenever he lost his temper. In the morning he heard the sound of the hammer hitting the nail. He often heard him hammering nails every day. He put up with the sound for many days. One day there was absolute silence in the house and Babu’s father could not believe his ears. Feeling contented with his transformation, he approached Babu.
He said, “Dad, I followed your advice. On the first day I hammered 50 nails. Gradually the number decreased and at last I hit only one yesterday and today I did not touch the hammer at all.” His father remarked, “How happy I am!” Then he asked him to pull the nails out of the wall with a cutting plier. Although Babu picked out all the nails, the marks and holes could not be erased. He repented for his action but the scars were permanent. Doing hurtful things in anger produces the same kind of result in our lives. It leaves a scar in the heart.
Yes, it is true that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. But we cannot take the love, compassion and salvation of Christ for granted and keep sinning deliberately without remorse. We should never yield to carnal mind and lust and commit presumptious sins thinking that we could get forgiveness. We should bear in mind that the Lord who loves sinners, rejects sins. When a sinner repents, Jesus accepts him as His child but when he sins over and over again, His heart grieves and feels sad. So, without disregarding the love and tender mercies of God, let us confess our sins. He will forgive and cleanse us from our sins. Let us dedicate ourselves to lead a life without any spot and wrinkle receiving mercy from God to overcome sins and to be Holy without blemish.
