Apprehension of God’s call
“…they opened the treasures presented gifts to Him gold, frankincense and myrrh.” – Matthew 2:11
The young couple Joseph and Mary received a call to a specific ministry. They were given the ministry of raising Messiah in this world. They were from a poor family background. It was difficult to make their livelihood out of carpentry even in the accustomed place. Now he had to go up to Bethlehem, his ancestral city to be taxed with Mary, his espoused wife. Although he did not know about the future necessity to flee to Egypt escaping from Herod and returning to Nazareth, as a responsible husband he must have thought hard and worried not knowing what to do next. Mary also must have kept all these things and pondered them in her heart.
Even today those who have received a call to ministry, hesitate to commit themselves to ministry, as they are unsure whether their needs will be provided if they do ministry. Their thought and worry about money prevent them from joining ministry. They have passion for ministry and burden for souls. Can our future needs be met? is the question that impedes their dedication to full time ministry.
But Joseph and Mary did not raise such question. They did not visualize any imaginary fear about their future in their minds. Instead, they dedicated themselves to God saying, “Let it be according to your word.” We all know what happened then. Three wisemen from the East came to worship the King of the Jews. Joseph and Mary might have wondered at them. Their visit was quite an unexpected one. They opened the treasures and presented gifts to baby Jesus namely gold, frankincense and myrrh. Not only gold but also the other two gifts were valuable. Hallelujah! To their great astonishment, their needs for raising the newborn baby Jesus, for going to Egypt, for paying the house rent and for setting up carpentry shop were provided.
Beloved, if you have received a call to ministry, do not hesitate thinking about your future needs and their fulfillment. If we take one step forward with faith, God will lead us providing all our needs from His abundance and sustain us in a miraculous way.
