Surrender yourself
“…Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin;” – Matthew 6:28
Once upon a time a certain hermit planted an olive sapling hoping to get oil from the tree when it grew big. He desired to see the sapling grow strong and big very fast. So, he prayed to God to send light drizzle to strengthen the tender roots to grow deep and slight rain was sent at once. After sometime he asked God for sunshine. So, the drizzle stopped and there was sunshine. He did not stop with this. Again, he prayed for dew for his plant. It was also granted and he could see drops of dew and mist on the tiny leaves. Alas! Soon the young plant drooped and was dying. The hermit was disappointed.
The hermit went to meet another hermit. He narrated what had happened to his young olive tree. The other hermit said,” I too planted a young olive plant. It has grown strong and big. I trusted in God and committed it in the hands of God. I believed that God the creator of trees knows very well what is needed for the plant and what is best for the young tree. I did not lay any condition. I did not worry about it. I prayed to God to take care of it in storm, shower and sunshine. So, hereafter if you grow any plant, just place it in the hands of God without worrying about it. He can nurture it in an amazing way. The above quoted incident that was written by Charles E. Cowman brought in transformation in my attitude.
We can observe how beautifully the wild flowers grow. They grow in rain and dew, day and night without being nurtured. The word of God says, “Consider the lilies of the field how they grow; they neither toil nor spin”. But God clothes the grass of the field in a splendid way.
The one who dresses the wild flowers, can provide us with clothes that are better than theirs. We are more valuable than grass in the field. We are loved by God more than anything else as we are precious in his sight. Let us surrender ourselves to the Lord for the remission of sins and for leading a holy life. Let us commit ourselves to God. Let us put our trust in him and live for Him anticipating his second coming. Amen.
