Clay sand that waits
“…O Lord, You are our Father; we are the clay, and You our potter; and all we are the work of Your hand.” - Isaiah 64:8
A potter with an exquisite craftsmanship was busy working at his wheel. He mixed clay sand, kneaded and placed the dough on the wheel and made fine pieces of decorative pottery. When he was forming a jar from one lump, it was spoiled in his hand. So, he was reworking it. But it was not up to his expectation. Nevertheless, he tried again and again without losing heart. He thought of making it perfect after resting for a while. The other earthenware products such as pots, flowerpots and jars mocked at the lump on the wheel saying, “We are so lucky. We were formed into beautiful and useful articles very quickly. But you are useless. However, the potter tried, he could not make anything out of you.”
The lump on the wheel felt a little bit. But it kept quiet as it knew that it was in the hands of its master and he had every right over it. At last, the potter returned and made a magnificent jar and decorated it beautifully. One day many of the potteries were taken to the palace to bedeck the palace garden. The king was walking on the roof of the palace. His eyes fell on the splendid jar. The king commanded his servant to bring the decorative jar to his room for personal use. The other potteries who made fun of him were astonished.
Joseph was placed second in command and the Lord over all the land of Egypt. Before rising to power, the way he was led through and the fashion by which he was moulded by God are different. There were days when he was about to get drowned in the sea of misery. But trusting in God, he submitted himself in the hands of God. Thus, he was formed into a useful and honorable vessel. Let us dedicate our lives into the hands of the Heavenly potter who can mould us into a useful vessel according to His will.
