Backsliding 

 

“Ponder the path of your feet…Remove your foot from evil.” – Proverbs 4:26, 27 

 

Napoleon who rose to prominence during the French Revolution began to backslide before the battle of Waterloo. He gorged himself on beef and potatoes and he failed to prove his mettle because of his gluttony. He was vanquished by the British and exiled to the island of Helena. 

 

Backsliding is relapsing into bad and evil ways or falling backward in sins. Those who give themselves to wasteful extravagance and lead a dissolute life without paying heed to warning, tend to backslide. Lure of the world, slavery to technology and addiction to something evil will separate us from God and end in tears. How can we feel ease in the things of God? 

 

Eve’s backsliding is described in the 3rd chapter of Genesis and because of her fall, the entire world was corrupted. Once again, the earth was corrupt before God by the unholy way of living, wickedness and backsliding of the people in Noah’s period. Thus, God destroyed men from the face of the earth. But Noah remained just and perfect. He did according to all that God commanded him to do. 

 

Beloved, the Lord god has assured us saying “I will heal their backsliding.” If we spend time in God’s presence in silence and ponder, God will reveal us where we have backslidden. Our sins and iniquities will be cleansed through the blood of Jesus. Great and plentiful are His mercies and He will abundantly pardon us. Let us examine ourselves attentively. Let us amend our ways and our doing. This is the time for our restoration. God will restore us and add more blessing that will amaze us.
