“There is a lad here…” – John 6:9
Seventeen-year-old Jeyalakshmi belongs to a poor family in Athanakottai, a village in Pudukottai district. She lives in a cottage with cracked roof tiles. Her father abandoned the family as her mother became mentally challenged. She studied in a government school and she was the school topper. She cleared ISSO contest meritoriously and she was eligible for an educational tour to NASA. Many charitable trusts sponsored for her trip to NASA. But she gave up her NASA visit as she felt the immediate need for toilets in her village and in other villages in her district. With the help of Gramalaya, every household has a toilet in Athanakottai and in other villages. Jeyalakshmi’s sacrifice and selfless deed was telecast and it is an inspiration to many others.
Once when Jesus saw a great multitude, He began to teach many things. When it was evening, Jesus told His disciples to give people something to eat. Andrew said, “There is a lad here who has five barely loaves and two small fish.” He told His disciples to make the people sit down. He took the loaves and fish, blessed and gave the disciples. They distributed them and more than 5000 men ate, filled and took up 12 baskets full of fragments that remained. The little nameless lad was the foundation of such a miracle. He is a source of inspiration and encouragement to bring what we have to Jesus.
Do we have such a testimony before God and men? Will people remark saying, “There is a lad here.” In times of coronavirus pandemic, we must help out the needy with our talents, mental power, manual labour, time and money. People of our town, members of our church and friends must say, “There is a lad here.” Yes, youth must come forward to do such selfless service to others. We will find great pleasure in our life when we know that we are pleasing God. Let us commit ourselves to God. Be a happy helper! God bless you!
