Between two lines
“I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 3:14
Penny Shepard had a spinal cord injury at the age of 13 and she experienced incessant and acute pain while walking and standing. Amid all sufferings she became the mother of two girls. She relied on others to get things done to her and so she was frustrated. As she was a burden to others she prayed earnestly in agony. She was able to hear someone telling her, “Run seeking a miracle.” She knew for sure that it was the voice of God and she resolved to obey it immediately. Though she was not an athlete she made up her mind to run the marathon with the distance of 26.2 miles. How would it be possible for her to run when it was difficult to walk? As she had the determination to receive the miracle from God, she underwent strenuous practice. She was happy to have her doctor as the coach.
Nearly 24,000 athletes participated in that long running race. When Penny got to the starting line, the pain in her spinal card vanished. She had been running for seven hours and was weary and fatigue losing all her energy. But when she read the word of God written on her hand by her daughters to cheer her up and motivate her, she was reenergized. The promise that, “They will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not faint” was strengthening her. At last, she was so exhausted that she could not take a single step further. Her daughters lent their shoulders and she touched the finish line. At once she was governed by the power of God and she was healed completely. Her faith, submission and perseverance worked wonder. Miracle happened not at the finish line but at the starting line when she got to it.
In Shushan, Nehemiah the king’s cupbearer wept, mourned fasted and prayed when he heard that the wall of Jerusalem was broken down and its gates were burned with fire and the Jews were in great distress. Accepting God’s vision and plans, getting consent and favor from the king, working against adversary and with the combined efforts of people he accomplished the tremendous task in fifty-two days precisely and fulfilled God’s plan.
Undaunted by the dreadful situation and adversary if we march forward courageously to reach the goal with one motive with God’s help and perseverance, we will reach our destination and enjoy the fruit of our labor.
