Our life is what our thoughts make it

“Let us not grow weary while doing good…” – Galatians 6:9

A car got stuck in a canal that was in a remote and unfrequented area. Fortunately, a horseman who passed by came forward to help the car driver to pull the car out. He tied his horse named Dani to the car. He called out saying, “Nalli pull the car.” Dani did not move. Then he called out to “Loney” and then to “Sano” and asked them to pull the car. There was no response from Dani. At last, when he said, “Dani, pull the car.” At once Dani pulled with all his might and brought the car out.

The car driver asked why he called out too many horses. He also wondered at the way Dani responded. The horse man explained to him by saying, “Sir, this horse is blind. When I called out the other horses, this horse thought that there were more horses with him to do the task. So, the very thought gave him energy to pull out the car. If it had known that it was alone, it would not have accomplished it.” Many of us are like Dani. We don’t want to get involved in community service if we are alone. Some of us don’t have the intention to do the good works for the church and spend our time and energy when we know that others are not interested in it. We do not like to take up the entire responsibility.

Elijah ran for his life when Jezebel was hunting for him. He went to Horeb and hid himself in a cave. He said to God, “I alone, am left and they seek to take my life.” But God affirmed that He had reserved seven thousand Israel for Him.

Without carrying out our work, we murmur that we cannot take up the responsibility and perform what is within our capacity. We may be totally blind to see the presence of others and their contribution like Elijah. Even if we are left alone to do the task, we must keep doing good works without going weary. If we do not lose heart, in due season we shall reap. What we do to Christ may be obscure and unnoticed and may not be approved or appreciated. But our Lord knows how diligent we are and how much we have toiled unseen by others. God is not unjust to forget our work and labor of love which we have shown towards His name. El Roi, “The God who sees Me” is with us. Amen.
