Favorable or Unfavorable

 

“…The root of the righteous cannot be moved…” – Proverbs 12:3

 

In the Holy Bible the righteous are compared to palm trees and cedar trees of Lebanon. It is written, “The righteous will flourish like a palm tree and they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon. The palm trees need less care and it can thrive even in drought. Practically all parts of the palm trees are very useful. In the same way cedar of Lebanon can grow well even when they are covered with snow. They are large trees growing up to 160 feet. They even go down the mountain very deep and look majestic and lofty. They can withstand bitter cold. 

 

In the Bible we read when Naomi arose with her daughters-in-law Ruth and Orpha, she entreated them to go to their mother’s house as she was helpless. Orpha kissed her mother-in-law and went back to her people and to her God because of the prevailing unfavorable situation. But Ruth clung to her mother-in-law in that difficult situation. She trusted her mother-in-law and followed her to an unknown country. She said, “Wherever you go I will go; And wherever you lodge, I will lodge. Your people shall be my people and your God my God. If anything, but death parts you and me. Although she was a Moabitee, the Lord let her root go downward and bear fruit upward. She is named specifically in the genealogy of Jesus Christ. How true the word of God that says, “There shall come forth a rod from the stem of Jesse.” 

 

Yes, beloved in Christ, “The root of the righteous cannot be moved.” They take root down and endure any predicament. So let us abide in Christ and bear fruits no matter how difficult and unfavorable the situations are and how intense our afflictions and distress is. At times our lives may be at stake but let us be righteous till the end.
