Bubbles in the water
“My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord, nor detest His correction.”– Proverbs 3:11
A little lad made a play boat and let it float on the water. He began to play on the bank of the lake. Suddenly when he turned to see where his boat was, he found that it had floated away and was out of his reach. He got worried as he was not able to reach it. A young boy came to the lake accidentally. The lad asked the young chap if he could take the boat from the water. That boy quietly picked some stones and threw them towards the boat.
The lad wondered why he was doing so without helping him. He thought he was damaging the boat. But when he observed carefully, he understood that not even a single stone had touched the boat. All had fallen a little away from the boat and tiny bubbles were formed. Those little bubbles slowly pushed the boat towards the bank. Each stone was thrown aiming at the exact spot he planned. Thus, he was able to direct the boat to the bank. The lad thanked the boy and got his boat.
At times we feel discouraged dejected when we are chastised by God. When we run away from God’s presence and fellowship, to get us back on track, He allows chastening in our lives.
As the proverbs say,” He who spares his rod hates his son. Human parents correct, rebuke and discipline the children. So, we should be under the mighty hands of the Lord of Lords who chastises to save us from everlasting punishment. Our parents chastened us for sometimes as it seemed best to them. But the Father of Spirits corrects us for our profit that we may be partakers of His holiness.
Out of love, God allows chastisements in our lives to keep us close to Him and let us not despise the chastening of the Lord. Let us understand the reason behind His chastisement and mend our ways. He allows it for our good and to have intimate fellowship with Him. Let us praise Him for His loving rebukes that profit us and draw us near to Him.
