Give rest

“…put a knife to your throat if you are a man given to appetite.” - Proverbs 23:2

Dear kids! Are you all happy? How is it possible for us to remain happy? We are glad because every single part of our body functions well. If we are sick, we can’t be happy, can we? So, our Lord Jesus Christ protects us so well and we are blessed with good health. So, we should never forget to thank God for keeping us fine.

There lived an aged woman in a house. A sweet little girl named Ramani was her helper. One fine morning, she thought of going out to play after completing the chores such as sweeping the floor and washing the dishes. As soon as the work was over, she was about to go out. But at that time the granny asked her to cut the vegetables. She cut the vegetables cheerfully and quickly. Immediately she was given the work of churning milk to obtain butter. She had no rest and she felt very tired after churning milk. But the old woman did not stop with it. She told her to do washing. Her tender hands were painful as she was working continuously without a break. Anyhow with much difficulty she washed the clothes and hung out the washing. She was too tired to go out to play. Moreover, it was very late. Poor Ramani!

Ramani did not show any anger towards granny. But we feel very angry with the old woman for giving Ramani too much work one by one without a break to rest. In a way we are similar to the old lady. Before our stomach could digest one item, we begin to eat another item without a break. We have our meals then in between we have desserts and snacks one by one continuously. As we do not give adequate time for the tender stomach to rest, we give extra burden to the stomach. This leads to overweight but we lose our health and fitness. We need to have hours of break for our next intake. Then we can stay healthy. What will happen to our stomach if we over eat?

Dear children, we should not over eat and fall ill. The proverb says, “Too much of anything is good for nothing.” So let us eat at regular intervals and not between meals. Let us take care of our body gifted by God and stay healthy.
