Fear is a snare 

 

“The fear of man brings a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord shall be safe.” – Proverbs 29:25 

 

This is a funny story. A certain man’s wife was chasing him through a crowded zoo. She was running after her husband with an umbrella in her hand and abusing him in filthy language. The timid husband was sweating too much and he found refuge in an unlocked lion’s cage. At that time a lion’s cage was safer to him than his wife’s cruel hands. The tamed lion got frightened of his presence. But his wrathful wife shouted at him saying, “What a coward you are! If you are brave, come out of the cage.” Imagine, if a man staying with a lion in its cage is a coward, then she must be more dangerous. 

 

The Israelites could not discern of whom they should be afraid. When Moses sent 12 men to spy out Canaan, 10 of them discouraged the heart of the people saying that the people there were men of great stature and giants and they were like grasshoppers. The Israelites were too scared of their outward appearance and decided that they could not overcome them. They forget that the Lord was their strength. As they did not believe in God, they rebelled and that evil generation was consumed and could not enter the good land. Only Caleb and Joshua inherited Canaan as they believed that they could easily overcome those people. 

 

The fear of men brings a snare. But those who trust in the Lord will be safe. If we are afraid of man, we disbelieve God and His mighty power, His promises and His plans for us. Let the fear of the Lord be upon us. He is the only one who is awesome and worthy to be feared. We should always remember that God is in control and nothing can happen to us without His knowledge. He is alone trust worthy. When we keep our trust in Him and submit ourselves to Him, we will be placed in His refuge.
