Footprints 

 

“The righteous man walks in his integrity; His children are blessed after him.” – Proverbs 20:7

 

The posterity of two men namely Max Jukes and Jonathan Edward were traced. Both lived in Newyork at about the same period. Max Jukes was an atheist who led an ungodly and evil life. He married an ungodly woman, who did not fear God. The family tree of Max Juke’s descendants was traced and his legacy came to people’s attention. Juke’s descendants included 310 paupers without food, work or shelter. Many of them were physically ill due to immoral life and addiction to alcohol and some were sent to prison for robbery. Thus, the government had wasted 1500000 dollars on them.

 

On the other hand, Jonathan Edward was a godly man and a preacher. His wife was a missionary. They passed on a great godly legacy to their descendants. The Edward’s legacy included 300 preachers, missionaries and seminary teachers. Some were lawyers and judges. A few became governors and presidents. On the whole, many descendants were eminent, influential and in power. 

 

What a huge difference between their legacies. They provide an example of how; the way the parents raise their children and the value they teach influence not only the children but also the generations to follow either for good or evil. If the parents are righteous their generation will be blessed. The life we live determines the legacy we leave. All depends on the decision we take. If we fear the Lord and walk in His ways, we will be blessed richly and our descendants will also stay blessed according to the word of God. All the blessings pronounced in the Bible will be bestowed on us and on our descendants. The unrighteousness of parents will influence not only the children but also the future generations. Our lives and the footprints we leave behind must bring only blessings to our posterity and not curses. Let us lead a righteous life and bring forth a generation of faith into this world.
