Do not consent if enticed

 

“My son, if sinners entice you, do not consent.” – Proverbs 1:10   

 

A tiny spider spun an elegant web in a magnificent palace and was lying in the center of the web gracefully. A house fly was fascinated by the artistic web and exclaimed, “I wish I had such a charming web to fly in and enjoy.” On hearing the wish of the housefly, the cunning spider invited the housefly to come and have a great time with it. Being beguiled by the enticing words of the spider, the poor housefly got trapped in the web. However, it tried to get out of the trap, its efforts were to no avail. After sometime the housefly became an easy prey for the spider. How sad it is! 

 

Lewd and obscene materials and incitement to immorality are given in the palm of our hands. We are encircled by friends who encourage us to take sins lightly. In educational institutions and workplace, we have temptations to lead us into a sinful life style. Thus, we fall prey to sinful ways of living. We are carried away by the persuasive words of the flatterers. The lips of an immoral woman drip honey and her mouth is smoother than oil. But the wages of sin is death. In due course sin will be bitter like wormwood. We may struggle to get delivered from sins. We may find it difficult to come out of the trap. At that time, we may wail saying, “I have not obeyed the voice of my teacher. I disdained my parents’ counsel and despised their rebuke. Who will set me free? Who will lift me up out of the mire of sin?

 

This is the instruction given in the Bible to those who take sins lightly: “Do not walk in the path of sinners; keep away from the path of the wicked. Do not walk in the counsel of the ungodly or stand in the path of sinners or sit in the seat of the scornful.” We can keep ourselves holy by looking in the mirror of God’s word, the mirror that judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart and exposes our sins and shortcomings.” Then we correct ourselves and there will be a spiritual transformation. We will be precious and blessed in the sight of the Lord who sees us.
