Help the needy

“Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in the power of your hand to do so.” – Proverbs 3:27

A certain youth was given a job not matching to his qualification. He felt miserable as he was not paid well and he could not help his parents in the village monetarily. He had been praying with hope and waiting for a good job. He was involved in his church ministry also. One day he was taking food to a relative of his boss who was admitted to the government Hospital due to corona. The youth put on a face mask and wore gloves on his hands and went to the corona ward. It was over crowded with patients and care givers. The ward boys were helping them out without a break. In spite of it, he saw the patients and caregivers anxiously searching for a helping hand. As they were more in number, the ward boys could not meet the needs of everyone. The youth gave the food to that relative of his boss. Then he fetched water for the other patients who sought his help. He bought food for a few patients. They were so grateful to the helper that they thrust money into his hands. Moreover, they asked him if he could help them out as long as they stayed in the hospital. He agreed to help them. Almost two months rolled away. He risked his life and helped them every day. When the patients were discharged after recovery, they gave him a handsome amount of money for his timely help unmindful of coronavirus. Thus, he was able to save a fair amount.

When David heard in the wilderness that Nabal was sheering his sheep, he sent his young men to Nabal asking for provision for him and his servants as it was festive time and a time for sharing. But Nabal was arrogant and selfish and he hurled insults at David’s men. Thus, they returned to David empty-handed. In this way Nabal earned the wrath of David. On hearing about Nabal’s foolish behavior, Nabal’s wise wife Abigail prepared delicious food for David and his servants who were hungry and hurried to meet David. She acted wisely and found favor in his eyes. So, when we get an opportunity to help others, if it is with in our power, we need to do it without fail. Abigail acted wisely and provided David with his requirements and was blessed.

Many a time, when we happen to cross the path of distress and trouble, not knowing what to do, we feel depressed only by our worries and burden. We are too selfish to think about others in such miserable situation. But forgetting all about our sorrows distress and laying aside our problems if we come forward to help the needy and to manifest the love of God to them, we will glorify the name of the Lord.
