The Lion

“If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small.” - Proverbs 24:10

An interesting show on the lion, “the king of the jungle” was telecast on the Discovery channel. It depicted the unique traits of the lion. Of course, it possesses a large, powerfully built body but its uniqueness lies in its mightily strong and fearless heart. It is undaunted when it is alone or in group. It never gives up and retreats. It cannot be subdued or defeated. It can encounter even a group of ten animals with an indomitable spirit. The Holy Bible describes the lion’s royalty and stateliness. The Bible extols it saying that the lion is “mighty among beasts, who retreats before nothing.”

Are we feeling weary and fatigue due to some problems, today? God has spoken to us through one of his creations – the lion. When God has granted so much courage, power and strength to an animal, how much more strength he could have bestowed on man who was created in His own image? That is why the apostle Paul stated with assurance that, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13). He had never uttered any word of discouragement in his life although he had his own weakness. Instead, he believed that his strength was made perfect in his weakness. So let no one get disheartened on any account.

In today’s devotion we read that if we faint in the days of adversity, our strength is limited. But when we come across losses and endangerment, our hearts are crushed. In the 30th chapter of Samuel 1 we find David in a terrible predicament. He was greatly distressed. But he was not disheartened. He strengthened himself in the Lord, his God. So let us not grow weary and lose heart in dangerous and grieving situations. Let us read and meditate on the word of God. Let us rejuvenate ourselves receiving the strength from the Lord.
